The Kutmah 'Two Soups & A Honeybun' display held at the HVW8 Gallery in Hollywood was a truly inspiring experience! Kutmah, a world renown DJ & Producer based out of LA, playing such events as Low End Theory & Coachella, was recently deported sent to the UK. While in the 2 month hold in a federal penitentiary in Arizona he passed his time by drawing. Only using 49 small pieces of paper, a pencil & a card he retained from his wallet. The display had all 48 pieces and an unfinished 49th. All the pieces were very detailed and very technically driven, there was a consistent theme of evil and or sad eyes looking in through these very geometric & symmetrical structures floating in empty white. All of the pieces kind of felt haunting, you could definitely feel the time and evil he must have had to pass through in the penitentiary, by the detail and overall feeling of the drawings. I ended up getting a shirt with one of the prints silk screened on it by 'Hit & Run' and 'OBEY' (who also helped sponsor the event!) They also gave out passes for the after party held at the Echo in Los Angeles. Headliners included Ras G, Take & Jon Wayne, with special guest Teebs! Great night, beautiful artwork and a truly inspiring event. There was also live custom silk screening by Hit & Run & Obey!
Pictures of the prints will be posted as soon as I upload all 49 of the shots :[ !
Exclusive milc footage of the Headliners is here to watch and listen to now though!
At my second low end theory experience of 2011, Daddy Kev (the owner of Low End & AlphaPup Records) booked a surprise duo guest performance, FLYING LOTUS & THOM YORKE! Who just so happen to be two of the huge contributors to modern day experimental music. Not only were they performing, but they were performing as a duo! Doing a live turntable set... Seriously it was fucking fantastic! The best part of all, was that it was all a surprise! Enjoy probably the only good footage of that night right here on milc!
Some really nice footage of Jon Wayne Live at Brainfeeder! This Brainfeeder was held at the Independent Theater in Downtown LA. Jon Wayne & ELOS were rocking the rooftop as other Brianfeeder All-stars, Mono/Poly & Flying Lotus were rocking the actual cinema with live visuals on screen! Anyways beautiful vibes up on the rooftop, joints ablaze, and just so happen to be my first event with my beloved gf being back in town! Other than being another brainfeeding awesome musical journey, this was a whole shit ton of fun as well. Shout out to Brainfeeder, Alphapup &Alex from cornerstone for the good looking out!
One of the best LA events for myself in 2011 thus far! I wasn't there for the openers but Mimosa (23 out of LA) was off the chain! Spinning the best in Dubstep & Bass Music! Here is the clip!
