Let me first start off by saying my right ear will never hear the same again. I was standing in the front right side for about 4 hours in the main room at Bassface. My ears were ringing for the next two days, thanks to Sam XL & Pure Filth... No but really think you.
Since July 4th is usually a family deal during the daytime (over here in LA it seems at least) and Bassface having a late afternoon kickoff, the early crowd started off scarce. I felt like me and my friends had our own private Bassface for two hours, which I am not complaining about one bit! Daddy Kev & Strangeloop, some of the Alpha-Pup / Brainfeeder greats, opened Bassface at the 4 & 5pm slots.
"I'm lucky to be playing on one of the greatest sound systems in the world!" Strangeloop says after finishing his set, with the 10 luckiest people in the audience screaming as loud as we could after the rattling of the warehouse came to an end. I was actually amazed by his set, it looked like he was on some kind of MPD controller and was playing some pretty insane live IDM! My ears didn't know whether to bleed or cum.
Samiyam was next on the plate. There is nothing or nobody that plays a set like Sam, period. After about an hour of a shit ton of new 'what sounded like' a bunch of new Flying Lotus & Samiyam beats, Sam XL & The Professionals switched it over to the dubstep side of things. This was around the time the crowd started to pick up, because everybody knows who was next.
Jakes. Everybody & anybody, if you haven't seen Jakes or heard of em, do it.
