milc Samples Vol 1 - 909 x Tanzmaus (OUT NOW!)

So happy to finally announce that milc Sample packs are here! I thought that we should start 2021 and the relaunching of the brand with a bang, so here is something a bit different but right up our alley, SAMPLE PACKS! To be honest we didn't even know where to start, so we said 'we should just start with the classics, then milcify them!'.

“Launched in 1983 for $1300, the Roland 909 was only produced for a year, with just 10,000 units made. Even though it offered an array of improvements over the TR-808—including MIDI connectivity, a powerful sequencer, external storage and superior sound quality—it had a shorter life than its predecessor.” -roland.com

The TR-909 Rhythm Composer is arguably the most iconic drum machine ever produced. Heard by billions on countless hit dance records in the 80’s and 90’s. Because of the 909’s popularity but limited number of production models, the rare Rhythm Composer has become a Holy Grail of sorts for the high paying gear heads and collectors. This has consequently led to many a boutique manufacture cloning the 909, including MFB based in Berlin.

The MFB Tanzmaus is a 7 voice (5 Analog and 2 Sample) monophonic 909 type clone. Despite only having 7 voices, this little machine packs a HUGE punch and a much heftier sound than the original 909. However, lacks a bit of the original character of the 909, and in some ways is it’s own entity, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing…

All that being said, in 2020, dry 909 samples or Tanzbar samples don’t quite cut it for modern production. To remedy this, the ‘milc - 909 x Tanzmaus’ samples are layered with sounds from both machines, taking the ‘Umph’ from the MFB and the original timbres from the 909, sandwiched then saturated through a multitude of effects to create a modern bass heavy flip on the classic sound of the Roland 909.
